CARP MUST ONLY BE PHOTOGRAPHED IN THE WATER AFTER THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE: –
At Les Fortinieres the whole procedure is carried out in the water, weigh posts have been installed in order to be able to do this.
Immediately unhook the carp in the landing net in the water.
Remove your wrist watch rings etc. Get your scales ready and zeroed on the weigh system. Put your chest waders on. Get your camera set up and ready.
Remove pole from landing net arms in the water, at the same time slide the weigh sling under the fish and landing net and check that all fins are flat against the body. Push the end of the floating coral down in the water and simply slide the floating retainer into the coral ( which needs to be in the swim at waters edge). Remove the net from the floating retainer sliding it out going towards the tail end of the fish. Now secure the zips both meeting in the middle at the top. Move the coral under the weigh system while your buddy lowers the scales so you can put the rings onto the hook of the scales.
Take a little tension on the sling but before the carps weight is lifted, always check that the fins are all against the body in the direction of the tail. Once this is done the carp is safe for raising just above the water for recording the weight. (This should be done within 20 seconds then lowered safely back down into the coral).
It is essential you now apply a reputable treatment care product to the hook penetration point and any other marks or sores to the carp.
Now you can take your photo’s with no risk of injury to the carp. Please take one photo of each side of the carp ensuring your fingers are in no danger of sliding into the gills or damaging it’s eyes. This should be done as quickly and safely as possible to keep the stress down of the carp. Please ensure before fully releasing the fish that it’s sitting up correctly in the coral and fit and ready to be released. Simply sink the end of the coral at the head end of the carp and let the fish swim out freely.
